Voodoo Visionary have penned a song that has ties to Suwannee, Hulaween and kangaroos. So obviously we want to premier it, right!?!!
If you were at the inaugural Suwannee Hulaween, you might remember seeing a gang of kangaroos hopping and dancing around the festival. That wasn’t your imagination, but it was in fact the ‘Kang Gang.’
The weekend influenced a song, which we are stoked to debut as a free download.
Read a quote from drummer Mac Schmitz regarding the tune and the experience…
[The song] was inspired by the first Suwannee Hulaween in 2013. I have some friends from school who had a crew coming down from the northeast and we had our crew from Georgia, and we all decided to dress up in these goofy Kangaroo costumes and call ourselves the Kang Gang in honor of Michael Kang. The word spread pretty quickly and on Halloween night there ended up being close to 40 or so people dressed in identical Kang suits! The costumes were warm so we wore them for most of the weekend. We had such a blast and on the way back home our bass player Jimmy penned the words for that song and we put the music to it very shortly after that. So it was inspired by the entire community, music, party, and overall psychedelic experience of that weekend.
The six-piece band from Georgia has their debut album Spirit of the Groove, of which this song is from, set to be released on March 12th. It will be available via Bandcamp as a pay-what-you-want download.
Voodoo Visionary also has some upcoming dates in the southeast, so definitely go see them on tour if they come near your town.
