Jazzfest has once again pieced together one hell of a lineup, this time headlined by Stevie Wonder, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, and Neil Young. With many standouts filling out the undercard, Jazzfest might be the highest stacked lineup of any festival this year, certainly providing big names in a way that Coachella couldn’t. Bonnaroo announces their lineup tonight, so we’ll see. At any rate, a two-weekend festival with The Isley Brothers, Herbie Hancock & Wayne Shorter, Gov’t Mule, Taj Mahal Trio, Snarky Puppy, Punch Brothers, Beck, Snoop Dogg, Christian Scott, and many more certainly has our attention.
It should be said that while Jazzfest is a premier festival, the talk of the town usually revolves around the city’s late-night shenanigans that take place during the same time period. To keep tabs on the non-festival occurrences, you can head over to the Jazzfest Grids site. It looks like shows from Funkadelic, Chic w/ Nile Rodgers, and Kamasi Washington are all already booked for the week, and we expect a TON more announcements in the coming months.
In addition to music, Jazzfest boasts other aspects of New Orleans heritage and culture including art and food (crawfish boil anybody?). Music, art, food, New Orleans’ legal public intoxication policies…what more could a human want?
