You know what the dopest part of running a music blog is? Posting whatever the hell you feel like it. We can post Big Gigantic’s remix of Zhu, and we can also post Deafheaven’s new song. Both bands are tearing it up on the festival circuit and we dig ’em both…because who just digs one type of music anymore?
Deafheaven’s newest offering “From the Kettle Onto the Coil” is a perfect synopsis of their style. The band pairs black metal blast beats with ultra-melodic, shoe-gazey interludes, which is pairs together perfectly but unexpectedly like sriracha and honey. If you dig bands like Converge, Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, or generally like bands that flirt with aggression and beauty simultaneously, you will not be disappointed.
Additionally, be sure to peep these guy’s live show. It’s a beautiful spectacle and was definitely a highlight of the Governors Ball festival in NYC this year. Tour dates below:
