Suwannee Hulaween: Costume Ideas For You & Your Crew

It’s that time of the year guys…do you know what you’re wearing yet!?

As you know, we’re more than stoked to head to Suwannee Hulaween this year, once again, for the mind-blowing Halloween celebration provided by String Cheese Incident and the incredible team at the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park.

However, with Widespread Panic in Denver, Phish in Vegas, Primus in NY and plenty of other whacky musical adventures taking place on All Hallows’ Eve, everyone could use a little inspiration to find that perfect costume. Here’s 12 ideas that can get your gears grinding, whether you’re rollin’ solo or with a fat group.

OH AND BY THE WAY>>> We’re running a costume contest ourselves on Instagram. Check out #HulaweeCostume for details!

The Classic Dancing Bears

You really can’t go wrong with the Grateful Dead Dancing Bears. Sunshine Daydream has these full body costumes for girls, boys and kids, but if you’re not trying to spend a lot of money, you can easily make your own rendition at home.

Girls, just get a cheap pair of brightly colored tights and look for a simple long-sleeved dress to match, like this from F21. Buy some felt in a different color than the dress, cut and and glue it along the bottom, sleeves, and collar.

Boys, look for a pair of navy blue sweatpants and matching sweatshirt, cut and glue yellow felt to the collar and you’re good to go. The hat may be a tad more difficult to make yourself, but thankfully you can get them individually for only $25.

Jellyfish

What better way to pay tribute to String Cheese than by dressing up as a jellyfish!? Mad props to our very own Katrina and Meg for giving us the inspiration for this costume! Decorate an umbrella with sheer iridescent jelly-like fabric on the top and cut strips to hang down for tentacles. You can use puffy paint to decorate the top and throw on some glow sticks the night of. For the skirts, use some of the same material as the umbrella and also some ocean-themed colors to match. Cut strips of fabric and sew (or glue) them to a band that fits around your waist and voilà!–you’re a jellyfish!

Squirrel Squad

Everything about this is just hilarious, right down to their facial expressions and the acorns in their hands. These guys really got the party pumpin’ last year. Costumes available at Target Online.

Penguin

How fuckin’ adorable is this thing? Whether making a Billy Madison reference or just waddlin’ around for shits ‘n’ giggles, this penguin costume is legit. Don’t wear one if you’re shy though, because everyone WILL want to be your friend. It’s available right here too.

Terrance & Phillip from South Park

costume

Last year, Terrance & Phillip celebrated Hulaween with all the other cheese-heads, and it really cracked me up! It’s a super simple costume, with the masks really being key. Heavy duty construction paper or foamy paper is perfect for this one. My friend Tori kept Terrance on a stick, but it would make a funny duo / couples costume too!

Bacon & Eggs

Definitely a great couples costume here, and it’s cheap too! Or if you’re single, just double up on the costumes and you have a sick look for two days. BOOM!

Everybody’s Best Friend

Maybe you’re traveling across state boarders clean as a whistle, but once you get to Suwannee you’re going to wants some of that sticky icky icky. Well, I know one way to get smoked out. Just sayin…. winky winky… ^__^

Alligator

Since we’re going to the swamp and all, an alligator costume might be appropriate to spook some non-Floridians who legitimately think gators will creep up on your campsite or something. Seriously, ever since moving to NY I have had some hilarious questions in reference to alligators sent my way…

The Lonely Hearts Club Band

Because you’d be the flyest festies in the forest if you were wearing these. You can order these legit costumes from the Costume Gallery or get real crafty and make your own. Again, Goodwill and thrift stores will be your best friend if that’s the route you choose to go. JoAnn’s will have the gold embroidery and before you know it, you’ll be a member of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Or The Beatles…

And for those that may not feel comfortable prancing around in florescent, gold embroidered tuxedos, this may be an option for you. The black skinny ties are really the key.

Amy Winehouse

You might not make everyone happy with taking the whole “Day of the Dead” thing to a literal level, but Amy Winehouse has a sexy look to her anyways.

Apple Logo

Everyone loves Apple products, and now, you too (no, not U2…) can be an Apple product…for Halloween! It’s cheap here, but probably cheaper to make yourself!
